Chipperfield celebrated
Form Matters is the first UK exhibition of the work of award-winning architect David Chipperfield. Opening on Wednesday, the London Design Museum show will be a wide-ranging survey of his career, using models, sketches, drawings and photographs, but the main focus will be on his most ambitious and important project, the reconstruction of the Neues Museum in Berlin. Other works featured will include the acclaimed River and Rowing Museum in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, central England, the Hepworth Wakefield gallery in Yorkshire, northern England, and the Museum of Modern Literature in Marbach, Germany, which won the Royal Institute of British Architects Stirling Prize in 2007.

North-eastern promise
Design Event 09, an annual festival showcasing the best design talent of north-east England, takes place over 10 days in various venues across three city regions; Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Sunderland and Middlesbrough. The festival consists of a variety of events, featuring examples of consumer products, graphic design and architecture, linked by the overarching theme “Politics and Play”. Highlights include Design Event Mart, a selling exhibition of the works of 13 local designers, Doing it for the Kids, which examines the influence of children’s toys, and Democracy, an interactive exhibition allowing the public to vote on its contents.

Wright stuff
Interior design consultants Clarke and Reilly are to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of Frank Lloyd Wright with an exhibition of paintings, furniture, lighting and textile and wallpaper designs created by six artists and designers inspired by the great architect.
