These two excellent Royal Shakespeare Company stagings of Hilary Mantel’s multi-prize-winning novels get a deserved London run, directed by Jeremy Herrin. The novels, about Henry VIII’s marriage to and separation from Anne Boleyn, are adapted with mastery by Mike Poulton.

Ben Miles gives a strong performance as Henry’s principal “fixer” Thomas Cromwell, with firm support from Nathaniel Parker and Lydia Leonard as Henry and Anne.
