What was your childhood or earliest ambition?
I had a few of them actually: to be in the movies, to be a good daughter and to be remembered as a good human being.
Private school or government school? University or straight into work?
Private school, university for two years and then straight into work.

Ambition or talent: which matters more to success?
I believe they go hand in hand. What is talent without ambition, and ambition without talent?
How politically committed are you?
I’m aware of the situation ...
Do you have more than one home?
Yes ... and I’ve worked hard.
What’s your biggest extravagance?
My homes in Mumbai.
What would you like to own that you don’t currently possess?
More time with my family and a super-high metabolism so I can have a dessert after every meal!
In what place are you happiest?
On a film set and in my office doing accounts.
What ambitions do you still have?
To work with some more of the directors that are on my wish list, and to do simple, beautiful films that will be remembered for ever.
What is the greatest achievement of your life so far?
I don’t believe I’ve achieved much at all.
What drives you on?
My constant need to learn and get better.
What has been your greatest disappointment?
To see so many relationships and marriages around me crumble.
If your 20-year-old self could see you now, what would she think?
That six years later, hopefully I’m on the right track.
If you lost everything tomorrow, what would you do?
Start all over again.
Do you believe in an afterlife?
I often think about it, but I haven’t reached a conclusion yet.
If you had to rate your satisfaction with your life so far, out of 10, what would you score?
I’d treat myself to a slice of dense chocolate cake instead!
