Courteney Monroe, 45, is chief executive of National Geographic Channels US. The former HBO executive is moving away from one-off documentaries in favour of more series, such as Brain Games and The ’90s: The Last Great Decade, on the TV network.
Jumpsuit by Vince
I travel frequently between our offices in Washington, DC, New York and Los Angeles, so I need clothes like this wrinkle-free jumpsuit that work well in all three locations. This black, zip-front, low-waisted piece has a cropped leg that gives it a more tailored feel and it can look either urban chic or more classic and traditional, depending on my choice of accessories. I think it looks best when paired with a statement-making piece of jewellery – something funky that adds a pop of colour – and with a platform heel. This is my go-to wardrobe staple.

Shoes by Prada
I prefer platform heels by Prada, YSL and Pedro García because, at 5ft 2in, I like to add a bit of height. My current favourites are a pair of black Prada platforms with a white ankle strap and toe. Comfort is key because I spend a lot of time walking – particularly in New York – and these shoes are both comfortable and stylish. For practical purposes I travel with a pair of flats in my bag – they make it easier to get through airport security lines – but I never wear them to meetings.

Necklace by Intermix
This jewelled necklace has a very Wonder Woman feel to it – almost like a protective shield. It brightens up the black of this jumpsuit but looks professional at the same time. When I wear a bold piece such as this, I just pair it with simple diamond stud earrings as I don’t like too much going on at once.

Watch by Cartier
I wear a men’s Chronograph watch that was given to me by my husband for my 40th birthday and that makes it even more special. I prefer the masculine feel of my timepiece to daintier versions and, even though my mother might not approve, I’ve been known to pair it with both silver and gold accessories.
