Linda Livingstone has been appointed dean of the business school at George Washington University. Prof Livingstone, who has been dean of the Graziadio School of Business at Pepperdine University in California for the past 12 years, will move to GWU in August.

Prof Livingstone will join GWU after a year in which the business school has had no permanent dean. This followed the very public firing of Doug Guthrie from the position in August 2013 because of a budgetary overspend.

Prof Livingstone is the second female dean to be appointed at a ranked US business school this month. Emory University in Atlanta announced 10 days ago that Erika Hayes James had been appointed dean of the Goizueta Business School, and will start her new job in July. She is currently senior associate dean for executive education at the Darden school at the University of Virginia.

Prof Livingstone holds a PhD in management from Oklahoma State University and before joining Pepperdine worked at Baylor University. She will also assume the chair of the AACSB, the US business school accreditation body, later this year. The AACSB recently announced that it would establish a European headquarters in Amsterdam.
