Village at the End of the World
Sarah Gavron, David Katznelson
This modest but soulful documentary is a portrait of Niaqornat, a tiny (59 inhabitants) fishing village in Greenland that is reckoned to be one of the most remote human outposts on earth.
“The way of the Inuit is to struggle with nature,” says Karl, mayor and chief hunter, who braves 24-hour darkness in winter and ice made thin by the rising sea temperature. Meanwhile, his estranged 16-year-old son Lars dreams of moving to New York in order to meet more girls. Rich and strange human drama.
