Two US schools appoint new deans

As the US dean hunting season comes to an end, two east coast business schools have announced appointments.
Boston University is sticking to its tried and tested model of appointing a businessman rather than an academic to the top job. Kenneth Freeman, of private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, will replace Louis Lataif, an alumnus of the motor trade, who was dean at BU for 19 years. Mr Freeman is also an executive-in-residence at Columbia Business School.
The George Washington School of Business, in Washington DC, has appointed Doug Guthrie of New York University’s Stern School of Business as it’s next dean, to replace Susan Phillips, another long-standing appointee - she is retiring as dean after 12 years. Prof Guthrie is an expert in management, corporate governance and economic reform in China - he is fluent in Mandarin. He previously taught at Harvard Business School, Insead and the business schools at Stanford, Columbia and Emory.
Both men will take up their new positions in August.
