Columbia’s Manhattanville project receives $25m fillip

Columbia Business School has received a second major donation towards its new Manhattanville Campus in New York. The $25m has been donated by Leon Cooperman, chairman and chief executive of Omega Advisors, and a Columbia alumnus of the class of 1967.
Mr Cooperman, who is also a member of Columbia’s Board of Overseers, has been a regular donor to the school through several scholarship schemes. He also endowed the Leon Cooperman Professorship of Finance and Economics in 1995.
The biggest donor to date to the Manhattanville Campus is Henry Kravis, of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR), who gave $100m to the project in October 2010.
The Manhattanville Campus, which has been designed by New York architecture firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro, will be located in a former industrial area in West Harlem. It has been designed to include public green space and retail, dining and cultural spaces. Other campus occupants will include Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs and School of the Arts.
