For the past year, Berlin-based photographer Friederike von Rauch has been taking pictures at museums throughout Europe outside of the regular opening times, often at night time and in darkness. Von Rauch took the picture at right, called Untitled and taken from the series Sleeping Beauties, when she was alone inside the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp, which is home to paintings, drawings and sculptures from the 14th to the 20th centuries. The portrait in the photograph, Mater Dolorosa, is by the 19-century Belgian painter Henri Decaisne. ‘Sleeping Beauties’ is showing from December 7 until January 26 at Gallery 51, Antwerp, Belgium; www.gallery51.com
