Donso

4 star rating

Donso consists of three Malians playing the oldest, most traditional instruments imaginable, and a Frenchman with keyboards. The electronica here comes from the same sonic palette as the ngoni; they mimic the dry affect of the balafon, and reinforce the Malian contribution. So the stuttering rhythm of ‘Mogoya’ is pushed, warped, folded back on itself, and a synthesiser sings along like the wail of a hunter.
