Gautam Malkani is an FT journalist and author of “Londonstani”, his debut novel about the Asian community in Hounslow to be published next year by Fourth Estate.

Here he writes an exclusive online journal about investigating the tangled relationship between Heathrow airport and Hounslow, the London borough he grew up in, while on assignment for the FT magazine to write “The other jet set”.
