Sofia Coppola, 2013
Beautifully shot and strangely gripping, Sofia Coppola’s film tells the true story of how five students took to burgling celebrities’ Hollywood Hills homes. Thanks to websites touting which party Paris Hilton et al were set to attend and when, the gang knew the optimal time to break in – in Hilton’s case, just a matter of retrieving the key from under the mat.
Under Coppola’s characteristically dispassionate gaze, the protagonists come across as vacuous, label-obsessed automatons, with the exception of one, played by Emma Watson, who injects a modicum of sass.
