OMG is Aim’s movie star, having helped to create Gollum for Lord of the Rings and contributed to blockbusters such as Spider-Man and Harry Potter. But the imaging group has fallen on hard times, suffering from the US recession. Evolution, its broker, forecasts that profits for the year ended in September halved to £800,000. The shares were priced at 75p on flotation in 2001 when turnover was £6m but, in spite of steady growth to more than £26m, the share price was languishing at about 20p – until it was boosted by Thursday’s news of a deal with Microsoft. Vicon, OMG’s camera tracking business, will build cameras developed by Microsoft Research Cambridge to track Alzheimer sufferers. By replaying the day’s events, as recorded by the cameras around their necks, patients can enhance their short-term memories.
