Acts of God - earthquakes, hurricanes and floods - marked 2005. From Iraq came car-bomb carnage, determined voters and a dictator in denial. And London, too, experienced the fear and devastation of a terrorist attack. Pope John Paul II passed away and Paris burned. It fell to sport to provide images of elation - London celebrating its successful Olympic bid and England’s crickets lifting the Ashes, at last.
