The name suggests some angry agit-pop outfit led by a descendant of Michael Franti or Jello Biafra. But The War on Drugs turn out to be a quite different proposition.

The Philadelphia outfit, led by Adam Granduciel, are inspired by classic heartland rock, a patriotic sound spliced on their latest album Lost in the Dream with the imported drive of krautrock’s motorik beat. The pairing is inspired, fusing the open landscape of 1970s/80s US rock with Neu!’s hypnotic pulse.
