Ofgem, the energy industry regulator, has told consumers to get in
touch if they have concerns about the sales practices of their energy suppliers.
The appeal comes as Ofgem this week announced it was launching a probe into whether NPower, Scottish Power, Scottish and Southern Energy and
EDF Energy were complying with tougher new rules designed to prevent mis-selling of energy contracts.
Since last year, suppliers have been required to be proactive in preventing misselling to customers both face-to-face and over the phone.
If suppliers are selling contracts face-to-face, they must give an estimate before the end of the sale. Customers should also receive a comparison of the supplier’s offer with their current deal.
Consumers who wish to report any concerns should call Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06.
