Advanced Style is a history lesson. Human life has two consecutive halves. First half: you are what you wear. Second half: you are how you wear. Lina Plioplyte and Ari Seth Cohen’s documentary tries to buck the verities of ageing by presenting, nay parading, the fashion-plate female wrinklies of modern New York. Age does not wither these polygenarians who don their fauvist dresses, primp their farouche or fanciful hair and refuse to take pensionability as a prison sentence. Time withers the film a bit, even at a modest but repetitive 75 minutes. It’s still a bold bid to give senior-citizen fashion passion its moment in the spotlight.
