The University of Maryland’s Smith school of business has appointed insider G. “Anand” Anandalingam as the next dean. He will take over from Howard Frank on July 1.

Prof Anandalingam will step up from his role as senior associate dean at the school and professor of management science.

Prof Anandalingam, a technology management specialist, joined the Smith school in 2001. Prior to that he worked at the University of Pennsylvania and was professor of operations and information management at the Wharton School. Prof Anandalingam’s curriculum vitae is littered with big name universities such as Pennsylvania. He got an undergraduate degree in electrical sciences from the University of Cambridge and a PhD in Operations Research with Economics from Harvard.

A thoroughbred academic, Prof Anandalingam’s research centres on the area of pricing, economics, design, and strategic issues in electronic markets and telecommunications networks and he has had more than 75 papers published in refereed journals on these subjects.

Over the past decade the Smith school has built up a formidable research record and a focus on business and information technology. “I’ve had the pleasure of taking part in the Smith School’s rise for the past seven years and I am excited to continue the progress, “ said Prof Anandalingam on his appointment. “As we go forward, I could not be more committed to utilizing our resources, location and remarkable thought leadership to develop strong global business leaders for sustainable innovation.”
