The German artist Thorsten Brinkmann (b 1971) is known for combining objects that don’t usually belong together – as he does above by photographing his own dog with a bucket on its head. By making such unexpected connections, his intention is to render the everyday world suddenly new and unfamiliar.
This image is currently on display at the Alfred Ehrhardt Stiftung gallery in Berlin, as part of Wild, a photography exhibition that aims to capture the complex and often macabre relationship between humans and animals.
The exhibition title is intended as an ironic comment on how seldom animals are photographed in their natural surroundings and are instead collected as trophies, used for entertainment and processed as food.
‘Wild’ is at the Alfred Ehrhardt Stiftung gallery, Berlin, until September 14.
