Jan Garbarek’s ethereal sax sound finds a suitable setting at Bath Cathedral on Monday

The Norwegian saxophonist first combined his ethereal tone with the four male voices of the Hilliard ensemble on a programme of medieval church music in 1993. They’ve broadened their repertoire to include world music and Garbarek originals, but their spine-tingling purity of sound remains untouched.

Garbarek’s gig wraps up the Bath Festival’s “weekend of jazz” which runs from May 24-26 with a solid programme that includes Finland’s Liro Rantala and Scotland’s Brass Jaw.
