Megan Boyd, a legendary maker of fishing flies, surfaces only at the end of this documentary in grainy 1960s footage. Until then, she is an enigma evoked by awestruck anglers and in Em Cooper’s dreamlike animation.
Boyd, who supplied Prince Charles, and was awarded an MBE in 1971, lives alone in Scotland’s far north and is depicted like a sorceress, with instructions for her creations recited like spells. It’s a meditative glimpse of an ascetic way of life, yet so niche that you wonder if it merits 75 minutes, much of them shots of rippling water.
