Mayra Andrade: Lovely Difficult

Singer makes a bid for mainstream pop with songs in English and French as well as her usual Verdean Creole and Portuguese

The Cape Verdean singer makes a bid for the mainstream pop market with this release: there are songs in English (the lazily swinging “We Used To Call It Love”) and French (“Simplement”, a soupçon of saudade amid the Parisianisms) as well as her usual Verdean Creole and Portuguese.

Amid the gentle mood, listeners with long memories will miss her trademark sudden explosions of joyful energy.
