Three Sisters

Southwark Playhouse, London

Young playwright Anya Reiss has just done a reworking of Wedekind’s teen shocker Spring Awakening with great success for Headlong theatre company and earlier produced a retelling of The Seagull. Here she tackles another classic: Chekhov’s haunting drama about three sisters trapped by ennui and social structures in provincial Russia. Reiss’s version updates the story to the 21st century to focus on three sisters 3000 miles from home and unable to find a way to return. Russell Bolam directs.
