New boss for MBA accreditation body

Sharon Bamford has been appointed chief executive of the Association of MBAs, the London-based organisation which accredits MBA programmes around the globe.
Ms Bamford, who herself holds an MBA from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, previously worked as chief executive of the UK India Business Council, which was responsible for bilateral trade between the UK and India.
Prior to this she spent almost a decade working with academia, as chief executive of the Scottish Institute for Enterprise, which helped Scotland’s higher education institutions develop entrepreneurship, and as director of the Edinburgh Technopole, the University of Edinburgh’s science park.
Ms Bamford replaces Jeanette Purcell, who became chief executive of the association in 2003.
The association was founded as a membership organisation in 1967 and began its accreditation services in 1983. Today it accredits Masters in Management programmes and DBA (doctor of business administration) degrees as well as MBA programmes.
