No huge stylistic departures on Gabby Young’s third album of circus swing, inhabiting the disputed territory between folk, jazz and cabaret, but her virtues are intact: a sound ear for a melody that starts as a strummed waltz and then suddenly takes off, propelled by her operatic voice.

A ghostly hidden track, just Young and a guitar, has a directness that strips away the brass and vim of the rest of the album.
