Official sites
HM Treasury provides details of the chancellor's speeches, economic forecasts, news releases and links to related Treasury documents. It has a page dedicated to this year's Budget with links to policy areas and earlier budgets.
The Bank of England site includes a news release section that contains the minutes from previous Monetary Policy Committee meetings, a statistical press release section that contains the latest statistical releases and publications and working papers.
The HM Customs & Excise and the Inland Revenue have now combined their sites. The new site is divided into three sections: one for the general public; a section for employers and a part for large companies. It includes information regarding VAT in the UK and recently amended publications.
Political parties
The Labour party's website has information on its policies, press releases, current campaigns and other topics. You can view a profile of the Chancellor as he prepares for his tenth budget.
The Conservatives' website includes a profile of George Osborne, the shadow chancellor. You can also send your thoughts to the MP for Tatton via his own website.
There is a biography of Vincent Cable, the Liberal Democrat's spokesman on the economy, on the party's website. The MP for Twickenham also offers his thoughts on issues ranging from the economy to NHS funding in his blog.
Business and finance
Chiltern, a UK tax consultancy, offers a 2006 budget wish list, including a prediction of further anti-avoidance measures and changes to the inheritance tax regime.
The Forum for Private Businesses offers commentary on the 2006 Budget plans. The organisation has successfully lobbied the Channel Islands to close a tax loophole which allows retailers to sell CDs and DVDs tax free to UK consumers.
The Chartered Institute of Taxation is the professional body for chartered tax advisers. The site hosts up-to-date news articles concentrating on tax issues and offers its thoughts on what it thinks should be included in this year's budget.
The Incomes Data Services has been publishing reports on employment and pension issues since 1966. It will be keeping an eye out for an announcement on the minimum wage.
The Institute for Fiscal Studies is one of Europe's principal centres of economic policy research. The think tank, which looks at tax, public finance and education issues, will be holding a budget briefing.
Deloitte & Touche - the UK practice of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu offers predictions of what the chancellor will include in his speech and reaction from senior partners.
Ernst & Young UK provides a list of measures already announced by the government, probable outcomes of the budget and a few couple of changes that have an outside chance of being introduced.
KPMG like its rivals has a full package of Budget coverage. This includes predictions, a history and a quotes section including this observation from Lord Wilson of Rivaulx: "The Treasury could not, with any marked success, run a fish and chip shop."
PricewaterhouseCoopers budget coverage this year includes reader polls, a pocket tax book, predictions for Gordon Brown's tenth budget and an assessment of the prospects for the UK economy.
