Who hasn’t had a disastrous weekend in Paris? The city is awash with visiting couples trying in vain to rekindle that je ne sais quoi, but surely none quite as painfully as middle-aged marrieds Meg and Nick.
Meg (Lindsay Duncan), corrosively disappointed with her maudlin husband Nick (Jim Broadbent), takes the break by the reins, upgrading them from a Pigalle dive to a hotel they can’t afford. But even fluffy robes and champagne can’t reinvigorate their amour; they are more turned on by snails in a brasserie. A run-in with Nick’s colleague Morgan (an oleaginous Jeff Goldblum) leads to an unforgettable dinner party denouement.
