Douglas Breeden is to step down as dean of Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business in June 2007, after six years in office. Prof Breeden plans to resume teaching and research full-time while retaining his appointment as finance professor at the school.

During his tenure Prof Breeden expanded the size of the faculty and the school’s endowment. In the past year the university also decided to retain its shareholding in Duke CE, Duke’s for-profit corporate education venture, rather than opting for a flotation, as originally planned.

Before being appointed dean in 2001, Prof Breeden served on the faculties of the University of Chicago, Stanford University, Duke and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He holds a PhD in finance from Stanford and a bachelor degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is the co-founder of Smith Breeden Associates, a money management firm in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
