A giddy trip to the Riviera can be yours with the reissue of Hitchcock’s To Catch a Thief, fizzing with innuendo as Cary Grant and Grace Kelly gambol after a jewel thief. Opening with a travel agents’ window filled with adverts for the south of France (then Cut to a screaming old maid), the whole thing is really a condensed summer holiday, all hot sun and suavity. “Quiche lorraine,” Grant murmurs to a lunch guest, as if he were serving ambrosia. “You’ll like this.” In the eternal Skegness of Britain circa 1955, they must have been licking the plate.
