Another vintage clutch of recordings from the Argentine pianist’s chamber music love-in? Not quite.

The 2013 edition includes a hard-driven Beethoven Cello Sonata No 2 with Mischa Maisky and a loud Debussy Petite Suite for four hands with Cristina Marton.

Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto finds Argerich as explosively improvisatory as ever, but overall there’s a hint of brusqueness that threatens to muddy the picture.

For the first time in this annual series, I preferred the non-Argerich performances – a scintillating suite from Offenbach’s Gaîté parisienne for three pianos and Gautier Capuçon’s warm-hearted espousal of cello sonatas by Respighi and Shostakovich.
