Sun, sea, sangria and ... shelving? Though concepts of Spanish culture usually exclude the latter, designers both new and established are injecting the Iberian love of life into their storage designs.

ABR aims to inject “a touch of fun and some good vibes” into the design world. Its geometric Latten shelving system is offered in a choice of seven colours and constructed from the clever linking of six simple chairs.

Pearson Lloyd has collaborated with Martínez Otero to create the Alpha collection, made from lacquered wood. Available in an array of colours ranging from dark violet to magenta and classic black or white, it is also available in birch or oak. Resembling a stepladder, the stand-alone piece could act as a room divider.

The Perec unit from Spanish designer PuntMobles is intended specifically for book storage. Described as a “living bookshelf”, its planes are set on diagonals and, if installed in multiples, allow the user to create mosaic designs.

A folded sheet of steel in a choice of white or black, Carme Pinós’s Noa collection for Santa & Cole creates an illusion of books floating against a wall.
