Official sites

HM Treasury provides details of the chancellor's speeches, economic forecasts, news releases and links to related Treasury documents. It has a pre-Budget section with links to previous statements.

Bank of England site includes a news release section that contains the minutes from previous Monetary Policy Committee meetings, a statistical press release section that contains the latest statistical releases and publications, as well as working papers.

HM Revenue & Customs is divided into three sections: one for individuals and employees , one for employers and one for businesses and corporations. It has a special page from which you can access all its news releases and documents relating to the PBR.

Political parties

Labour party's website has information on its policies, press releases, current campaigns and other topics. You might want to visit 10 Downing St as well.


The Conservatives’ website includes campaign issues. Current news and speeches are available, along with in-depth profiles of shadow ministers, MPs and peers.


The Liberal Democrats site has policy papers and briefings available in Adobe Acrobat files.  You can also view their current campaigns.

Business and finance

The Chartered Institute of Taxation is the professional body for chartered tax advisors. The site hosts up-to-date news articles concentrating on tax issues.


The Incomes Data Services website offers resources on employment issues and income policy.



The Institute for Fiscal Studies is one of Europe's principal centres of economic policy research. The website has a section for the IFS Green Budget, its annual analysis of the UK economy.


Deloitteoffers a hot topics section and a list of press releases.




Ernst & Young UKprovides a section dedicated to this year’s pre-Budget report. The Tax News and Online Publications section contains information from tax experts.


KPMGoffers several predictions on public finances prior to the pre-Budget report. It has a tax section useful both for people and businesses.

Industry Associations

PricewaterhouseCoopersin the UK provides analysis on recent economic trends and the Budgets in their UK economic outlook.



The British Chambers of Commerce site includes business news and several microsites including one on corporate social responsibility.


The British Retail Consortium site contains news on the retail industry and information on shopping in the UK



The Confederation of British Industry has up-to-date news of interest to UK businesses. The site also allows users to read up on policy work with guides to topics such as economic and monetary union, economics and taxes.

The Engineering Employers Federation site has a news section and various publications are available online



The Forum of Private Business represents small business in the UK and the EU. Current campaigns concern uniform business rates; employment red tape; training and skills; fuel costs; and banking


The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport was formed in June 1999, after the integration of the Institute of Logistics and The Chartered Institute of Transport. The institute manages a number of special interest groups.

NUT - The National Union of Teachers site contains informative resources for teachers in the UK.



Pensions and Investment Research Consultants - PIRC is based in London and believes that shareholder voting is a key way of preserving shareholder rights, minimising risks and enhancing value

The Trades Union Congress site provides news and analysis on employment and equality issues.  It has a budget section and also features a regularly updated newsroom.

Pressure Groups

The Automobile Association site has a news section with an industry view of government policies and programmes. The site has a reports section from which you can access information on the cost of car ownership in the UK.

Age Concern has a news section which contains policy papers and parliamentary news and briefings.



The British Medical Association features a variety of medical issues and press releases on key issues.



The Charities Aid Foundation has an extensive site designed for charities, individuals and companies. Its press releases are updated regularly in the news centre.


The Child Poverty Action Group has a What’s new section, with press releases, campaign details, and a range of publications.


The Federation of Small Businesses focuses on policy news and features details of how to lobby in the regions.



Friends of the Earthis an environmental pressure group.  Its site features a range of campaigning material and background briefings.


The King's Fund is an independent charitable foundation whose goal is to improve health, especially in London.
