David Stevenson: Progressive dividend players

Here’s some more details from Morgan Stanley on the notes I mentioned in this week’s column.

The main web address for this bit of Morgan Stanley – the structured products team – is at www.morganstanleyiq.co.uk. I’m also attaching the links to the product PDFs issued by the Morgan Stanley team – obviously these are their marketing sheets so you need to do your own due diligence and investigate the idea by looking at the web site noted above. Notes for the Morgan Stanley Value screen fund and the Morgan Stanley UK Target Equity index.

I’ve also worked up a small spreadsheet with my current research list for progressive dividend payers – you can download it here. I make no great claims about the summary list at the front – it’s merely a starter for further research.

I’d want to look at dividend cover, cashflow and business franchise plus operating margins compared to peers. But all I’d say is that the summary list has some mighty fine companies with every single company projected to pay more than 4 per cent next year (quite a lot more in some cases).

I can’t but help think that a smattering of such blue chips combined with a proper dividend reinvestment plan will hold most of us in good stead over the next decade.

One last point – all the data for this table derives from the excellent Sharescope software package I mentioned in my column the week before. I should also add that the software doesn’t cost £95 a month but just under £10 a month.
