Vanderbilt appoints Tuck professor as next dean

Eric Johnson will become the next dean of Vanderbilt’s Owen school of business in Nashville, Tennesee, on July 1. He will replace James Bradford, an experienced corporate executive and lawyer, who was appointed dean of the school in 2005, and announced his departure last December.

Prof Johnson, who is an expert in supply chain management and the impact of information technology on business, is now associate dean at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College, in New Hampshire. There he has been responsible for seven research centres and other initiatives as well as the school’s full-time MBA programme.

Chris Guthrie, dean of Vanderbilt Law School and head of the search committee that selected Johnson described the appointment as “a coup for Vanderbilt and a testament to the strength, vitality and reputation of the Owen School, the university and Nashville.”

Prof Johnson holds both bachelor and masters degrees in industrial engineering and economics from Pennsylvania State University and a PhD in industrial engineering and engineering management from Stanford University.
