Miles Davis: Miles at the Fillmore – Miles Davis 1970: the Bootleg Series Vol 3

This excellent 4 CD set presents, unedited, the trumpeter’s entire four-night residency at Fillmore East in June 1970 – tracks from Fillmore West are added as a bonus. The music is raw with experimentation as jazz, rock and electronics are compressed into a free-flowing whole.

Hippie-style jams come with fist in the pocket grooves that gain malevolence from the clash and clang of two keyboard players – Chic Corea and an acerbic Keith Jarrett. Davis is on peak form, turning from exuberance to melancholia in an instant.
