Solo For Two, Coliseum, London
At the London Coliseum from Wednesday until next Saturday Natalia Osipova and Vladimir Vasiliev are to be seen in this new and curiously named show. Details seem slightly vaporous, but these two superb dancers are presented in three scenes that seem somewhat off the classical ballet track where they have won such splendid laurels. Mercy is choreographed by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui to baroque music; Passo is made by Ohad Naharin, who directs a dance troupe in Tel Aviv; Facada has been created by Arthur Pita to Portuguese traditional fado music.

Mariinsky Ballet season, Royal Opera House, London
At Covent Garden, the feast continues. Were you to be fortunate this afternoon – or to have booked well in advance – you could see the gifted young Xander Parish as the Prince in Swan Lake with Yulia Stepanova as his ballerina. (Parish is the first Englishman to have been invited to join St Petersburg’s pride and joy, and he is well worth watching.) Swan Lake plays all next week in this beautiful staging until Friday, when a Balanchine double bill is shown, with the sublime Apollo preceding Mr B’s grand two-act A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which I think tremendous. (This programme is also on show at matinee and evening on August 9.)

Torobaka, Sadler’s Wells, London
I venture to list – months in advance of its Sadler’s Wells showing from November 3 to 8 – this collaboration between the Kathak virtuoso Akram Khan and the flamenco genius Israel Galván. Both are dancers whom I greatly admire, and if the advance publicity is to be believed – I am an innocent child in these matters – they are preparing to join, to contrast, to explore their separate dance heritages. Frankly, they are both so fascinating to watch that I don’t care if they throw dinner plates at each other. I want to be there to see them.
