Floods here, tornadoes there: there’s some terrible weather about but is it really climate change? And how can you bring such a vast concept home to people? James Balog puts cameras by glaciers to take time-lapse pictures of their shrinking – stark evidence of a warming planet.

Chasing Ice follows him as he grapples with temperamental equipment and a rickety knee in elemental terrain; it’s an odd hybrid, part portrait of a technician at work, part global warming polemic, but the images – Mississippis of meltwater, mighty icefields collapsing and receding – are, yes, chilling.
