Anand Anandalingam is to step down as dean of the Smith school at the University of Maryland on June 30, 2013, after five years in the job.

Prof Anandalingam joined the school in 2001 after 14 years with the Wharton school at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a professor of systems engineering and operations and information management. He succeeded businessman Howard Frank to the dean’s job at Maryland.

Born in the UK and brought up in Sri Lanka, Prof Anandalingam received an undergraduate degree in electrical sciences from the University of Cambridge and a PhD in Operations Research with Economics from Harvard.
