Do you have your own equivalent of Proust’s madeleine, a food that instantly brings back memories?
Growing up in Montreal, a staple was a steamed hotdog from Lafleur or a bagel from our local bagel store, Yagel Bagel.
Which chef do you relate to the most?
I adore Fergus Henderson at St John – it’s my favourite restaurant in London and I’m a fan of offal. Plus, we are both rather fond of spectacles.
Most memorable meal at a restaurant?
My 30th birthday with all my dearest friends at Bistrotheque, a local restaurant. It was a wonderful evening and I had my favourite dish there, which is roast chicken with extra garlic.
How do you rate yourself as a home cook?
I seem to excel in winter. Stews are my forte.
Do you collect kitchen gadgets?
I love Joseph Joseph’s “Chop2Pot” chopping board, and their salt and pepper shaker.
What is your greatest food weakness?
I love popcorn. In particular popcorn with olive oil, sea salt and Tabasco. No one else likes it in my house so I get the bowl to myself.
Which food do you use as a medicinal remedy?
A good, bloody steak when I have a cold, with a bit of horseradish.
Guests at your dream dinner party?
Oscar Wilde, Camille Paglia, Marlene Dietrich and Yves Saint Laurent. I don’t know if we would all get along but it would be eventful.
What would you choose as your last meal?
Christmas turkey with all the trimmings.
