An overlong sequel about crass newscaster Ron Burgundy, Anchorman Two: The Legend Continues has 20 minutes of Will Ferrell brilliance, and endless sections where the jokes go crude far too easily. Ferrell – completely worshipped by a mixed bunch of Saturday Night Live comedians – can be both unbelievably funny and embarrassingly unfunny and there are proper tumbleweed moments here. But for every 50 bad jokes, there is one super-snarky, super-deadpan, superbly inventive one, none of which remotely works when written down: it’s all in Ferrell’s ferrety eyes and delivery, or the way he happens to be standing. Oh, and there’s also a nice dog wearing a little sailor’s hat on a piece of elastic. Now you’re talking.
