The Financial Times, one of the world’s leading media organisations, today announces the appointment of Andrew Sollinger as Managing Director of the FT’s US commercial operations, which include the Financial Times and Money-Media, the US-based market leader in online news and commentary that was acquired by the FT in January 2008. Previously, Sollinger was Managing Director of Money-Media.
As a consequence of the reorganisation in the management structure of US commercial operations, US President Steve Howe will be leaving the FT. Since joining the company in 2004, Howe has been instrumental in leading the significant growth of FT print and online revenues as well as share-of-market gains during a challenging business climate. Working with colleagues on the region’s commercial and editorial teams, he has overseen the FT’s commercial expansion in the Americas. Steve Howe said, “It has been both exciting and rewarding to help build such an influential global brand in the Americas region. I thank the FT for the opportunity.”
Sollinger was part of the executive team that sold Money-Media to the FT. Before joining Money-Media in 2005, he was Group Publisher of Capital Markets at Thomson Media in New York, where he held various roles in strategy and new product development from 1997-2004. Prior to joining Thomson, he was an editor with Institutional Investor in New York for 10 years, including a year each in London and Hong Kong.
FT Deputy CEO Ben Hughes said: “The recent acquisition of Money-Media gives us the opportunity to consolidate that company and our FT commercial operations in the US under one management team and I am delighted that Andrew Sollinger will be heading this up. On behalf of everyone at the FT, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Steve for the outstanding work he has put into helping the FT grow its highly successful US operation.”
