Babson appoints women’s rights campaigner as president

Babson College has appointed Kerry Healey, former Lt. Governor of Massachusetts, as its next president. Dr Healey, who will succeed Len Schlesinger on July 1, is the first woman to hold the post at the Boston-based institution, which has made a name for itself in teaching entrepreneurship.
An academic by training, Dr. Healey has experience in government and international diplomacy as well as academia. In particular she has worked in the US and overseas in promoting the role of women.
A lawyer by training, she has published widely on criminal justice issues, and is an expert on human and women’s rights. She has been a Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Institute of Politics and Harvard’s Center for Public Leadership, and has taught at Rutgers University, Endicott College, and the University of Massachusetts-Lowell. Dr. Healey holds an undergraduate degree in government from Harvard College and a doctorate in political science and law from Trinity College, Dublin.
Dr Healey is a fan of Babson’s entrepreneurial credentials. “I fervently believe that education and entrepreneurship are essential in all spheres of society in order to solve economic and social problems and to create value,” she says.
