Here’s an odd but enticing debut from Sydney singer Ela Stiles – a set of a cappella tracks consisting of six mysterious fragments and a remarkable 10 minute mantra in which Stiles’ looped voice provides a background hum over which other vocal parts are layered.

Her singing is beguiling and the lyrics are enigmatic, dealing with states of contemplation and obsession. Meanwhile the melodies recall eastern and western devotional music, Celtic folk and the drone of the didgeridoo. An atmospheric curiosity.
