O’Hooley and Tidow
Silent June
No Master’s
Belinda O’Hooley was the first pianist for the Winterset, Rachel and Becky Unthank’s band. She has now paired up with Heidi Tidow.
This set, halfway between cabaret and folk, is set to piano and strings (some from her fellow Winterset alumna Jackie Oates). There are songs about aging and mortality, but the deceptively light “Shelter Me” is a memorably off-beat love song.
“If I was a bird”, sings Tidow, “I’d make my nest in your curly hair”; and O’Hooley unfolds a gorgeous piano melody underneath her.
