The Fletcher school, the graduate school of international affairs at Tufts University in Boston, has appointed alumnus James Stavridis, Nato’s top military commander, as its next dean. Admiral Stavridis will succeed Stephen Bosworth, who will retire later this year.
Admiral Stavridis studied for an MA in law and diplomacy and a PhD in international affairs at the Fletcher school and is the first naval officer to serve as American and Nato commander in Europe.
He has already taught two courses at Tufts, in Strategy and Policy and Literature of the Sea - his undergraduate degree is in literature. On his appointment he said: “I will focus on multinational, interagency, private-public and strategic communication approaches to international affairs, as I have through my career in the Navy.”
