Another Christmas beckons, another Susan Boyle album rolls off the Simon Cowell production line. There’ve been a few tweaks to the formula: less orchestral schmaltz, a SuBo-goes-80s theme involving covers of songs by Depeche Mode and Tears for Fears, neither of which is as distressing as her last album’s chintzy take on Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day”.
But otherwise it’s business as usual: songs coast by at a glacial pace, Boyle does her voice-of-the-angels routine, Cowell rings up the cash tills.
