Great US drought: the impact

The hottest temperatures on record turned a dry spell into extreme drought across the US heartland in 2012. Agricultural commodity prices shot to new records and policy makers were forced to revisit views on biofuels, climate change and trade. The effects will linger as the world enters another crop cycle with low grain stocks.
