European equities rose for the first time in four sessions on Monday after news of dealmaking activity in the telecoms sector boosted sentiment.
Norway’s Telenor surged 14.5 per cent to NKr72.75 after the company ended a long-running dispute with Moscow-based Alfa’s telecoms arm, Altimo. Norway’s largest telecoms group said it would merge its stakes in VimpelCom and Kyivstar with those of Altimo, creating a new company, VimpelCom. Its shares returned to levels last seen in October 2008.
