New US jobless claims ease

The number of US workers claiming unemployment benefits for the first time eased last week, official figures showed on Thursday, raising hopes that the worst could be over for the savaged labour force.

Separately on Thursday, the commerce department revealed that US retail sales showed their biggest monthly increase since January last month, as consumers are slowly lured back to the market .
