NHS deficits pose threat to operations

Significant parts of the National Health Service have lost financial control, with operations being delayed and jobs shed in an attempt to balance the books.

On current projections, the NHS is on course for a £623m net deficit this year: a figure the Department of Health hopes to reduce to £200m by the year-end.
